Publications, c.1939-2002

Component identifier:
Series 15
Content Summary:

This series contains monographs and serials collected by Meale. Most of the serials appear to be collected by Meale either because they contain articles about him or because they are of interest to him, for example, music journals

The monographs (which are in the first two boxes of this series) are either about topics of interest to Meale or are gifts. Of particular note is the book The Water-Babies(1939) which contains a birthday note to Meale from his parents. Another book, The Memoirs of Berlioz, has a handwritten note which is addressed to Patrick -presumably Patrick White -and appears to be written by David Malouf

The series as been arranged by the archivist into monographs and serials by decades. In instances where there are more than one issue of the same journal, these have been placed together.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The majority of the records appear to have been created or collected by Richard Meale. The papers were transferred to the Library in six accessions (instalments) throughout 2004, with three transferred directly from Meale. The remaining three were transferred by associates and friends of Meale - two former students and Meale's former agent, Barbara Mobbs. It does not appear that any of these custodians rearranged or added to the records during their period of custodianship. The papers from Barbara Mobbs comprise letters from Patrick White to Meale. They were received at the same time as another collection MS 10106, which also relates to Richard Meale. All six accessions were acquired from Meale in 2004. Further papers were transferred by Amanda Meale in 2010.
