Comprises a wide range of letters sent to and from Curt and Marea, separately and together, including with publishers and editors, with authors and composers such as Patrick White and Peter Sculthorpe, from members of the public in response to their music and theatre reviews, and correspondence on household administrative matters. Some letters are in German.
Most of Marea's correspondence following Curt's death in November 1967 is contained in Series 5. Some files in this series do include correspondence from after Curt's death.
Small amounts of correspondence are also contained in most other series, including series on Curt and Marea's writing and translation (Series 3 and 4), papers relating to Marea's singing career (Series 6), Marea's files relating to arts bodies (Series 9), and family papers of each (Series 10 and 11).
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- Marea Prerauer's nephew Alyn Tilleard donated the papers to the National Library of Australia in two instalments in 2006 and 2007. The National Library of Australia's Curator of Music Robyn Holmes and music historian Graeme Skinner packed the papers and undertook some arrangement and listing of the collection.
