The Library purchased the papers from Humphrey McQueen in September 1998. They comprise correspondence, literary papers (including drafts of Suspect history), appointment diaries, two cassettes and papers relating to Thelma McQueen.
The subjects of the correspondence include McQueen's work and books (Tom Roberts (1996), Emerging pluralism in Asia and the Pacific (1997), Suspect history (1997) and Temper democratic: how exceptional is Australia? (1998)), the Manning Clark Courier Mail controversy, an exhibition at the Brisbane City Gallery curated by McQueen entitled 'Typically? Australian' in 1988 and personal news.
