Content Summary:
Comprises Southall's war time service records; his Flying Log Book, with entries from 1942-1944; notebooks containing study notes relating to Southall's military training, including the operation of Sunderland aeroplanes; plotting maps of the south of England/northern France and of the Irish Channel; a printout of the Operations Records Book of 461 Squadron RAAF; and copies of 'Coastal Command Review', a military publication (1942-1945). There is also a small appointment diary for 1944; a small pocket notebook containing diary notes commenced 4 May 1945; and personal diary with entries for 1947.
Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were purchased by the National Library from Ivan Southall in two instalments in 1977 and 1997. Further papers were received in 2008, 2009, 2012,2013, 2015 and 2017.
