Content Summary:

Angus and Robertson publishedWoomera in 1962. Originally written for adults, Southall later published a children's version of the history of the Woomera rocket range, which was renamed Rockets in the desert by Angus and Robertson.

This series comprises drafts, including a redrafted version for children, notes, newspaper cuttings, pamphlets, photographs of the Woomera weapon testing site and correspondence. The correspondents include personnel from the Woomera base, John Abernethy and Beatrice Davis.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were purchased by the National Library from Ivan Southall in two instalments in 1977 and 1997. Further papers were received in 2008, 2009, 2012,2013, 2015 and 2017.
