Angus and Robertson published Bread and honey in 1970 and it won the Australian Children's Book of the Year Award in 1971. It was also shortlisted for the U. K. Carnegie Medal.
This series contains drafts and correspondence relating to the book. The correspondents include Belle Aldermann, Sue MacGregor and Barbara Ker Wilson. The correspondence file also contains a copy of Southall's acceptance speech on winning the Children's Book of the Year Award for Bread and honey.

- The papers were purchased by the National Library from Ivan Southall in two instalments in 1977 and 1997. Further papers were received in 2008, 2009, 2012,2013, 2015 and 2017.
