It was nominated for the U.K. Carnegie Medal in 1984 and shortlisted for the Australian Children's Book of the Year Award. It won the inaugural National Children's Book Award given in association with the Adelaide Festival.
This series contains drafts, notes, photocopies and correspondence. The correspondents include Jennifer Rowe (Angus and Robertson).

- The papers were purchased by the National Library from Ivan Southall in two instalments in 1977 and 1997. Further papers were received in 2008, 2009, 2012,2013, 2015 and 2017.
