Content Summary:

The Australia Council was established as a statutory authority in 1975, replacing the Australian Council for the Arts. As Director of the Australian Music Centre, Murdoch had a close association with the Music Board of the Council. In 1981-82 he was a Consultant to the Australia Council and undertook a number of projects, including a review of the Music Board's publishing program and the planning of a National Music Council. The series contains files and publications acquired by Murdoch in this period, including correspondence with Clive Pascoe, Ian Johnston and John Cameron.

Further papers on the Australia Council can be found in Series 15 and 22.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The Murdoch papers were purchased from James Murdoch in 1991. Further papers were received in 2010.
