This series contains draft entries for a 6 volume popular encyclopaedia. The rights were bought by the Melbourne Herald from the London Daily Mail and Arndt, given a free hand with the economic articles, spent about a month producing about 40,000 words for new articles and 40,000 words of revisions for the Australian edition.
Entries cover topics such as advertising, Stock Exchange, gold standard, cost of living etc. As well as entries drafted by Arndt, there are entries on the topics of Public Finance by R.H. Barback, for example, Australian Loan Council, budget and income tax; Demography, by W.D. Borrie; Social Security Services by R. Mendelsohn; Accountancy by T.M. Owen and Labour Economics by D.W. Oxnam.
Consignments added February 1988 and May 1993.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The first instalment of papers was donated by Professor Arndt under the Taxation Incentives for the Arts Scheme in 1981. Further consignments were donated by Professor Arndt in two instalments, in February 1988 and in May 1993.
