Musical sketches, 1940s-95
- Component identifier:
- Series 12
- Content Summary:
- These musical sketches for many of Humble's conventionally notated works have been divided into ten groups or categories. All sketches were coded and numbered within these ten categories by Dr Whiteoak. The groups include many unidentified and undated items and various research sets, rolls of row workings and folders of research notes. From the 1950s onwards Humble worked to develop his own theory of pitch rotation; his engagement with this research and its application to his own output can be seen in the working notes and research sets in this series. A collection of research charts has been included with the musical sketches on the basis that the charts appear to be the continuation, if not the culmination, of the working and research material contained in this series.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The papers were donated to the National Library by Mrs Jill Humble in 1999 under the Cultural Gifts Program.
