Publicity and program records, 1949-96

Component identifier:
Series 13
Content Summary:

This series contains programs and publicity material associated with Humble's diverse career as an accompanist, performer, conductor and composer in Australia and overseas. The newspaper and magazine clippings comprise reviews and critiques of Humble's musical activities throughout his career. The clippings are from a range of magazines including university newspapers, specialist musical magazines and daily newspapers-European, Australian and American. There are original programs, tickets, pamphlets, information sheets, notes on performers and general promotional and advertising material.

Where possible, the Library has maintained the approximate chronological ordering and grouping of the material. For example, material on the Centre of Music in Paris and particular tours/concerts was kept in separate folders and separate folders have been retained. There is an extensive collection of posters starting with Humble's 1949 farewell concert in Melbourne and covering performances in Europe, USA and Australia in his subsequent career. There are six elephant folders of posters.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were donated to the National Library by Mrs Jill Humble in 1999 under the Cultural Gifts Program.
