- Component identifier:
- Series 1
- Content Summary:
-
Series 1 contains over 160 diaries and notebooks annotated by Sidney Nolan between 1949 and 1991. The entries record Nolan's extensive travels, exhibition visits, quotes from literature, his own and others' poetry, meeting arrangements, addresses, telephone numbers, art supplies and concert and opera attendances. The entries are also records of his creative processes and include ideas and thoughts about his own and others art practice and include some small sketches.
Series 1 also contains 5 albums of loose items that were originally inserted in between the pages of some of the diaries and notebooks. To ensure long term preservation and safety of these items, they were removed and housed in sleeves and albums. To maintain the context of each item, a listing was created recording exactly where the item was originally located within the diary or notebook.
Series 1 also contains 4 small notebooks annotated by Lady Mary Nolan.
