Correspondence, 1912-2010

Component identifier:
Series 2
Content Summary:
The bulk of the correspondence files are contained within the first three subseries - Correspondence listed alphabetically, Early Business and Personal Correspondence and Additional Correspondence - and comprise incoming personal and business correspondence from a wide variety of individuals and organisations including family and friends, fellow visual artists, writers of prose and poetry, composers and performers of opera and ballet, theatre creators and performers, film makers and actors, architects, designers and illustrators, curators of state, national and commercial galleries and museums, auction houses, publishers and contributors of newspapers, magazines and books, academics of art history, social sciences and literature, politicians, senior public servants and royalty. Occasional copies, drafts or original unsent outgoing correspondence from Sidney Nolan are also included.
Arrangement:

The Library has retained both the subseries and file titles used by the Sidney Nolan Trust. Alphabetical arrangement carried out by the Trust archivists can refer to the either the first, last or organisational name. The Library has created itemised listing of all correspondents in the entire collection where the name is legible.

Square brackets have been used to indicate missing information such as first or last names e.g. [] Whiteley; Alistair []. Where the missing content may be reasonably inferred from context, this information has been placed within square brackets to indicate that it was not transcribed from the original material e.g. Patrick [White]. Where the name of the correspondent is unknown or could not be deciphered, the correspondent has been recorded as 'Unknown' or 'Illegible' as appropriate.
