This item represents the turning on of electricity in Penrith, New South Wales on October 3rd, 1890. This made Penrith the third municipality in New South Wales to make use of electricity. 1500 of these silk badges were handed out to children to commemorate this occasion and to promote the local mayor T.R. Smith.
