Glynn read widely in the field of English and Classical literature and was a popular speaker at literary society meetings. His speeches at such meetings showed his love for the classics, a knowledge of French and German writers, and a great interest in English literature, particularly Shakespeare.
He was President of the South Australian Literary Societies Union in 1895. The series contains many of Glynn's essays, speeches and lectures. There are handwritten drafts, typescript copies and published works. Most of the works have Shakespearian themes (King Lear, Some of Shakespeare's women, The disposition of Shakespeare, Some thoughts on Shakespeare). There is also an announcement of a speech given by Glynn at the Lothian Club, some poems in Glynn's handwriting and eight notebooks containing drafts of essays, poems and other literary works.
