Black and white glass slides
- Component identifier:
- Series 19
- Content Summary:
- A group of 84 black and white glass negatives of images of the Solomon Islands, taken in the early 1900s. Descriptions were compiled by Patricia Braga and are derived from the following sources: Northcote Deck's labels on the slide (N. Deck); Not in Vain, the magazine of the South Sea Evangelical Mission (NIV); and Pearls from the Pacific by FSH Young, 1925 (Pearls). Some of these slides are duplicated in the group of colour glass slides in Series 18. Note: because of the fragility of the glass slides, they are not available for reference. However, box 7/item 87 of this series comprises a folder containing a copy of each of the glass slides which can be accessed for research purposes.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The papers were acquired from Northcote Deck's son, Dr John Deck. The transfer to the National Library of Australia was facilitated by Patricia Braga, second cousin of Dr Deck, both being descendants of Henry Young.
