Content Summary:

Copies of Colonial Office papers, concerning convicts in New South Wales, including alphabetical lists of convicts 1788-1825, 1840-1849, saving books of convicts 1824-1868, and letters of Superintendent of Convicts 1824-1827, 1854-1867.

CO 207/1 starts with a list of convicts, beginning at letter V. The Entry Books record: name, where convicted, when, term. After folio 28: convictions to circa 1798, starting at letter A- strictly alphabetical, men and women interfiled.

From folio 103: a list, by date of arrival, of convicts convicted at places outside the United Kingdom (eg. Fort William, Madras), showing: date, vessel, name, where convicted, when, term, Native place, age, height, complexion, hair and eyes.

After folio 137 is list of ship arrivals in rough date order, 1823 back to 1788, showing numbers of convicts on each vessel, number sentenced to various terms, tonnage of vessel, number died on voyage. Mid pieces CO207/1-2: alphabetical list convicts arrived 1801-1814, male and female interfiled, showing simply name and number.

Next are details, arranged by date of arrival of ship, of convicts arrived on vessels 1823-1826. First list is for the Henty (very damaged). Last is for Marquis of Hastings (arrived 3.1.1826). Order of names is key, ship, then by letter of alphabet with which surname begins. Lists: Name, tried, when, sentence, Native place, trade, age, height, complexion, hair colour, eyes, how disposed of, ships master, and total number of convicts.
