The Australian Joint Copying project selectively filmed this Series starting from piece 40. Material filmed from the earlier part of this series includes Law Officer's reports on Colonial Acts, applications for passports and colonial appointments, semi-official correspondence and correspondence, including circular despatches, relating to the colonies generally.
Between 1801 and 1854 part of the correspondence concerns the War Department. A section of this Series forms the records of the General Department of the Colonial Office under its various titles.

Dates used in the this finding aid refer to those of the records selected for filming by the Australian Joint Copying Project (AJCP) rather than to the date range of the original , Series or File.
The National Archives of the UK has completed a cataloguing project (completed in 2007) to list the documents in CO 323/623-956 (years 1914 to 1926) to item level. This is available at TNA by searching the relevant piece number (http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4514).
