This series is mainly composed of secret despatches and telegrams withheld from the various colonies and subject and general series of original correspondence (otherwise in Correspondence with the colonies, entry books and registers of correspondence) at the time when they were bound up, but now declassified.
Material selected for filming by the Australian Joint Copying Project includes: Correspondence of the Colonial Office consisting of both general subjects such as defence, and other specific topics which may affect particular colonies and dominions.
This Series contains reference to various colonies and in most cases the relevant pieces have been included under the name of the colony in addition to their numerical listing.
The Australian Joint Copying Project filmed all pieces in their entirety with the exception of the following pieces from which selected extracts only were filmed: 1221, 2017, 2761, 4257, 4557, 4559-4560, 4591, 4594, 4595, 5193, 5398, 5400, 5752-5753, 6093-6096.
Not all pieces in the Series were filmed.
