Content Summary:

The 'Very Old Series' consists of miscellaneous correspondence of the Secretary-at-War's office to 1827; the 'Old Series', likewise dealing with a multiplicity of subjects, dates from 1827-1857. Selections filmed include discussion concerning the raising of the Royal New Zealand Fencibles in 1846, conditions under which discharges would be granted to soldiers wishing to settle in the Colonies, and provision of land and housing for such settlers.

Piece numbers have been amended to 853 and 876 as part of the 2018 AJCP Online Delivery Project (originally identified as 89 and 91 in Australian Joint Copying Project Handbook. Part 4: War Office - Second Edition, National Library of Australia and State Library of New South Wales, 1986). The Australian Joint Copying Project filmed both Pieces selectively.
