Content Summary:
This series is comprised of speeches, papers and reports in relation to Indigenous affairs. It includes papers, reports and publications by H. C. Coombs, Charles Perkins, Paul Keating, Robert E. Tickner and others on the socio-economic and political position of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia. This series also includes several copies of historic documents such as An Act to Repeal the Aborigines Act, 1934-1939 and Promote the Welfare and Advancement of Aborigines and of Persons of Aboriginal Blood in South Australia and For Other Purposes. This series also contains additional speeches, addresses and lectures given by Professor Lowitja O'Donoghue. Many of the speeches relate to O'Donoghue's roles as chair of Aboriginal Hostels, chair of Aboriginal Development Commission and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC). O'Donoghue's speeches reflect her role as an advocate for Indigenous rights, with a focus on improving health, housing, education and overall welfare outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
