Includes correspondence concerning the petition to the House of Commons against transportation, the voyage to Tasmania, O'Brien's refusal to accept the conditions for a ticket-of-leave, his solitary confinement at Maria Island, the activities of the other political prisoners, and Irish affairs. Most of the papers are copies of O'Brien's own letters, including letters to his family, and there are also letters of T.F. Meagher, J. Martin, R. Pitcairn (Hobart), W. Carter (Hobart) and A.
