- The letters were addressed to either Cochrane or his secretary on HMS Agincourt, Edward Waller. The bulk of the letters were written in Hong Kong and the correspondents included the governor and his subordinates, military and naval officers, and occasionally merchants and other civilians. There are also letters from naval officers, consuls and others in Macao, Canton (Guangzhou), Chusan (Zhoushan), Ningpo (Ningbo), Singapore, Trincomalee, Madras and elsewhere.
