Other correspondents are Sidney Herbert, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of the Admiralty, Admiral Francis Beaufort, the Hydrographer, and William A.B. Hamilton, who succeeded Barrow in January 1845. Many of the letters have attachments, including copies of letters from the Foreign Office and Colonial Office, orders-in-council and acts of Parliament, and printed notices to mariners. (321ff)
