Private journals of Sir Thomas Cochrane, 1840-1849
- Component identifier:
- Series
- Extent:
- 6 items
- Content Summary:
- While the private journals overlap with the official journals (MSS 2387-401), the former are in Cochrane's own hand, they are written in a more narrative style, and the entries tend to be lengthier. They record in considerable detail his service on the East Indies Station, including his numerous voyages on HMS Agincourt, his impressions of places visited, social life, and relations with the governors and other officials and with local rulers.
