The map is annotated with the following explanatory note, copied verbatim: The sources of the geological information shown on this map are as follow:- The detail of the Carboniferous geology is the result of the work of the author, except for the area between the Webbers CK. Fault and Lams Creek, the area east of Limeburners Creek near Port Stephens, the inliers south-west of Maitland, and an area of about 35sq miles surrounding the Village of Gosforth, the last of which has been described by Prof. Browne, (1926). The detail in the Permian region is chiefly from the map accompanying Prof. David's Memoir on the Hunter Coalfield (1904), and also from maps published more recently by the Geological Survey of N.S.W.On sheet 146cm x 62cm.
