The collection comprises a small amount of personal papers including a diary, correspondence, notes and drafts of articles and papers concerning his books Samoa mo Samoa and Peter Dillon of Vanikoro. The bulk of the collection comprises subject files containing publications, cuttings, photographs, correspondence, notes, and in some cases, original manuscripts relating to the South Pacific Commission, American Samoa, Fiji, Micronesia (USA) Nauru, New Zealand's island territories, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Western Samoa (1890-1973).

Abstract Or Scope
On 1 July 1988 the Australian Advisory Council on Bibliographic Services (AACOBS) merged with the Australian Libraries and Information Council (ALIC) to form the Australian Council of Libraries and Information Services (ACLIS). A voluntary association, ACLIS represented the interests of more than 900 member libraries and information services, lobbying governments on strategic issues and fostering national cooperation until its disbandment in December 1998. As well as supporting research projects and providing services to members, the Council played a major role in the development of initiatives and services such as the Distributed National Collection, standardised collection policies, collection evaluation (Conspectus), regional networking, the national bibliographic database, interlibrary loans and preservation of library materials.

MS 1884 comprises correspondence, diaries, notebooks, drafts of manuscripts, subject files, press cuttings, pamphlets, souvenirs, printed items, photographs, glass slides and other memorabilia relating to all aspects of General Sir John Monash's life and career. The collection includes juvenilia and items dating from Monash's school and university days. The correspondents include Hannah Victoria Moss (whom he married in 1891), J.T.N. Anderson (business partner), Mathilda Monash (sister) and other members of the Monash family, J. Gibson (business), Walter Rosenhain, Clara Stockfeld, Eva Blashki, Rose Blashki, Minnie Blashki, Jeanette Krakowski, Ada Krakowski, Kitty Lunday, Amy and Evie Corrie and Rose Schield.

The collection includes scripts of at least 80 plays, such as The Squatter's daughter and The Man from outback, as well as loose, untitled pages of playscripts and notebooks. Bert Bailey is most famously associated with the theatrical and film versions of On our selection, Dad and Dave come to town and Dad Rudd M.P. which are well documented here by scripts, stage directions, loose scripts, press cuttings, photographs and legal documents. Also featured are theatre programmes, posters and acting editions of plays. Press cuttings, printed matter and photographs include numerous theatre personalities. Personal and family correspondence and memorabilia are also included, notably an extensive collection of draft stories written by Doreen Bailey.
