Abstract Or Scope
The collection consists of records accumulated by successive committees between the early 1970s to 1998. It includes documents relating to the formation and constitution of the Society, Federal Executive minutes and reports, State branch reports, Federal Executive correspondence, membership lists, newsletters, manuscripts submitted for Society competitions and workshops, grant submissions, conference papers, and legal and financial papers. The secession of the NSW Branch in 1988 and the final demise of the Federal body in 2000 is documented in records amongst the August 1996 and December 1998 additions.

Correspondence 1851-1854, between W.A. Sanford and H.A. Sanford, and with their family in England. Some of the letters describe conditions in Fremantle. Letters 1851-1855, 1883, received by W.A. Sanford in his position as Colonial Secretary and after his return to England. They deal with education, the churches, customs, immigration, convicts and aborigines. Correspondents include Governor Charles Fitzgerald, Rev. James Brown, W. Cowan and M.W. Clifton, Dr. W. Harvey, Captain E.Y. Henderson, John W. Sillifant, Ellen Layton, Mr Rochester, Jane Tiphett, Thomas Brown, Rev. W.B. Brown, Waller Clifton, W. Hams and H. Campfield.

The fortnightly magazine Nation was one of the few truly independent journals published post second world war. It commenced in September 1958 merging with another independent magazine in 1972 to become Nation Review. Nation was published during a significant period of Australia's post war history. Politically, the turmoils of the Australian Labor Party and Australia's involvement in the Vietnam war were topical issues.

Geikie, Rev. Robert Steel, George Mackie, J. Cameron, Rev. J. D. Lang, W. M. Manning, M. W. McCallum, Sir John Hay, M. Mackay, David Waugh, James McCulloch and George Fullerton. There are also various documents relating to the Presbyterian Church at Kiama and to St. Andrew's College at the University of Sydney, some sermons, essays, newspaper cuttings and diaries, one of which includes details of services and baptisms from 1868 to 1878.

The bulk of the material covers the period from Lang's arrival in Australia in 1823 to his death in 1878. About two thirds of the collection consists of correspondence on such areas as family letters, education, immigration, and the Scots Church. As well as the general correspondence, the collection includes sermons, lectures, speeches, accounts and receipts for the years 1830-1890, newspaper clippings, cards, invitations and pictorial material.

Colonial Office records constitute by far the largest group of records filmed by the Australian Joint Copying Project (AJCP). As most of the Colonial Office Series relate to specific colonies they have largely been filmed comprehensively (with some exceptions). In this respect the Colonial Office copying has differed from that of most of the other record groups.
