Currockbilly Mountain logbook, 1964-2020
(1 non-standard box 30 x 31.5 cm)- Abstract Or Scope
-
This collection comprises the Currockbilly Mountain logbook which was originally placed by Coast and Mountain Walkers (CMW) bush walking club in the Budawangs, near Braidwood in 1964. Thought lost for many years, it was rediscovered in-situ on 14 November 2020 by the Canberra Bushwalking Club during the 50th anniversary celebrations for the placement of the current active logbook, which was placed on the mountain by the Sydney Bush Ramblers club in 1970. The collection also includes a map of the Budawang Ranges and the original aluminium tin container which housed both items, along with a list of bushwalkers who attended the 50th anniversary celebrations. The 1964 logbook and map are in very poor condition, having survived two bushfires, but still legible is the signature of Colin Watson who was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 1989 for services to conservation and bushwalking.
