An internationally respected Australian alpine ecologist, scientist, activist and government advisor, Alec Costin was instrumental in the conservation of the Australian Alps over the course of eight decades from 1946 through to the 21st century. The collection comprises a broad set of records created and/or compiled by Alec Costin during the course of his life and work. The records span from 1912 to 2020 and include papers, reports, correspondence, publications, manuscripts, photographs, slides, data sheets, diagrams and graphs.

Folio manuscript, 32 pages, no covers, written by Alexander Home includes 'The Account of Ottihiti and Our Transaction there, Continued' [pp 19-27, 30-41]; 'A description of the Vale of Tiarabuwh some Remarks on its inhabitants' [pp 42-54]; 'Lattd and Long. of places Touched at and Discovered by the Resolution and Discovery wh the Dates. Var: hight of the tides there Set of the nidle Thermometer' [pp 28-29]. Octavo manuscript, 66 pages, vellum cover, inscribed 'LOG BOOK of Captain Alex: Home R.N. of Buskenburn, Berwickshire while with Captain Cook on his last voyage 1776' includes proceedings of HMS Resolution and HMS Discovery at Owyhee in the Sandwich Islands, 7 February - 15 March 1779, including a description of the death of Captain Cook (15pp);'An account of Kamschatska', April 1779 (48pp).The typescript transcripts cover the complete contents of the Folio manuscript plus the first 15 pages of the Octavo manuscript.

MS 6383 comprises papers relating to Buzo's career as a playwright and author. There are manuscript and typescript drafts of his plays and novels, newspaper cuttings, promotional material, which includes posters and programs, photographs and reviews of performances of his plays. The correspondence in the collection documents Buzo's friendships with many other writers. Correspondents include Peter Corris, Michael Costigan, Diana Day, Geoffrey Dutton, Sandy Gore, Jonathon Hales, David Hare, Jack Hibberd, Ray Lawler, Valerie Lawson, Kathy Lette, Robin Lovejoy, Bruce Mason, Roger Milliss, Stephen Murray-Smith, Louis Nowra, Harold Pinter, Robert Quentin and John Tranter.The collection includes an amount of working material on Buzo's plays, including scripts, drafts and sketches, correspondence with producers, and photographs of productions. Three plays have significant background material: Makassar Reef, Rooted and Coralie Lansdowne says no. There are also programs, publicity and newsclippings. Folder 10 includes photographs of Buzo (6 boxes).

Abstract Or Scope
The Deakin Papers form one of the finest political collections in Australia. They cover most of Deakin's life, and, above all, document the Federation movement of the 1890s and the first decade of the Commonwealth. In addition to the extensive correspondence and other papers on Australian politics and government, there are many diaries, notebooks and manuscripts in which Deakin set down his religious and philosophical reflections, extracts and commentaries on his readings, verse and other literary writings. There is a wide range of material in the papers, including correspondence, diaries, notebooks, literary manuscripts, legal briefs, official documents and publications, press clippings, pamphlets, books, certificates, posters, menus, programs, receipts, photographs, briefcases and memorabilia. Most of the correspondence was written to Deakin, but there are many letters that he wrote to his family and drafts or copies of some of his other letters.
