This collection comprises drafts and manuscripts of papers in mathematics, applied mathematics and physics from 1946-1964; correspondence with P.A.M. Dirac 1944-1946. This material was previously held by the Australian Academy of Science (Ref: MS 045), and was transferred to the National Library of Australia in 2017.

Papers of Otto Boettger, 1886-1900

The collection comprises two detailed manuscript ledgers from Otto Boettger's practice as an optician (1886-1894), together with one volume of approximately 275 bound invoices, chronologically arranged, covering importations for his extensive engineering, surveying, optical and scientific instruments business (1892-1900). It presents a collection of unique records documenting a specialised profession in colonial Australia. The first ledger (20 October 1886 -15 July 1892), contains 21 pages of index and 102 pages of the ledger proper. Each page is designed to record the details of nine patients and the last entry is numbered 916. The second ledger (16 July 1892- 19 December 1894), contains 39 pages of index and 298 pages of the ledger proper, with each page containing details of seven patients (approximately 2086 individual records). The ledgers contain the name of the patient, often the address, the date of the consultation, the referring doctor, the prescription for the lens for each eye, and more often than not, specific details of the spectacle lenses or frames e.g. pale blue periscopic lenses / gold frame / twisted curled sides; Gold Pince-nez, Canadian; pantoscopic frame; and extra small children's frame made to order.

This collection consists of material created and collected by Guntis Berzins, who worked for the Overseas Telecommunications Commission (Australia) as an engineer during the 1960s and 1970s. The collection includes a series of 20 lectures on "Telecommunications Organization and Procedures" issued by the Commission, working documents regarding testing of the concept and establishment of a system to distribute television to the Australian outback, examination papers for promotion to a clerical position, and ephemera relating to the official opening of the South-East Asia Commonwealth Cable (SEACOM) on 30 March 1967. This submarine telephone cable linked Cairns with Guam, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Correspondence of the Gascoigne family, 1971-1980

The collection primarily comprises correspondence received by Martin Gascoigne from his parents Rosalie and Ben Gascoigne, his brother Toss and his sister Hester. This family correspondence covers an important period of the Gascoigne family's lives and careers and was a critical source for Martin Gascoigne's Catalogue Raisonné of Rosalie's work published by the ANU Press in 2019. There is also a small amount of other personal and business correspondence written and received by Martin. The collection includes transcripts of many of the letters written to Martin Gascoigne, with annotations by Martin regarding references to Rosalie Gascoigne's art.
