Papers and correspondence 1881-1904, dealing with various subjects such as: Federation; Victorian and federal politics; the South African War; programs for the Royal visit 1901; Imperial penny postage; official postings; honours; site of the Governor-General's house and his allowances; Hopetoun's appointments as Governor and Governor-General; and his resignation in 1902. MS Acc09.091 and MS Acc09.113 consignments comprise press cuttings, articles, correspondence and documents relating to policies of the National Library of Australia on collection development and information technology such as Kinetica and World 1 project, the National Document and Information System (NDIS). The World 1 project, an electric network connecting Australian and New Zealand libraries, was to be a system that would link libraries around Australia and provide electronic access to international materials not held by the Library.

Private and Commercial Correspondence collected by Captain T.G.S. Ward reflecting the history of Postmarks was filmed by the Australian Joint Copying Project includes letters are grouped by State of origin, with any New Zealand letters following the Australian items. Within each State group the correspondence is divided, where necessary, into commercial, private and church letters.

As well as papers concerned with the religious activities of the missionaries, much of the material in this collection includes writings, and incidental observations, on exploration, anthropology, linguistics, trade and economics, education, publishing, agriculture and social conditions. Political events closely affected the mission stations and are documented in the Society's records, including the proclamation of a British Protectorate in eastern New Guinea in 1884.

The Home Office was responsible for colonial affairs until 1801, but the bulk of records affecting the colonies has been transferred to the Colonial Office. Most of the remaining records of interest to the Australian Joint Copying Project concern the convicts.

The papers fall into three categories. The early series comprise a comprehensive record of David Armstrong's philosophical writings extending from his undergraduate days at the University of Sydney until the early 1980s. They include not only the drafts, usually handwritten, of his essays, articles, lectures and book reviews, but associated correspondence with other philosophers and with editors of journals, reviews of his early books, and his notes of lectures that he attended at Sydney and Oxford University.

They also include: correspondence and photographs, some relating to his research on Kenneth Slessor; drafts of book reviews, manuscripts of poems, A man of Sydney, Norman Lindsay: a personal memoir, the script Ned Kelly, the script for the ABC TV adaptation of Hamlet and The broad stream and letters and manuscripts of David Campbell.
