The collection comprises correspondence, photographs and biographies collected by Agnes and Joe Karlik relating to individuals and families who emigrated to Australia on the Anna Salen. The collection also includes an alphabetical list of the Ship's Manifest, a copy of Estonia's War Children: a fractured generation, compiled and narrated by Mai Maddisson, a visitor's book from a reunion of former inhabitants of the Northam Migrant Camp in Western Australia plus material relating to Agnes Karlik's father, Gustav Kovacs, who was a pioneer of the Hungarian film industry.

The majority of the papers comprise correspondence, circulars, speeches and clippings concerning elections and the ALP. There are pocket diaries from 1930-88 that include appointments and traveling details. There are also a number of miscellaneous pamphlets and books. There is a box of J.A. Clark's papers (father) comprising correspondence, papers from the 1916 conscription campaign and referendum and ledgers and financial papers from his tailoring business.

The collection consists of correspondence, diaries, notebooks, handwritten notes from talks, a large amount of research notes, cuttings, handbills, leaflets, translations, photographs and poetry. It covers such organisations as the Communist Party of Australia, the Australian Labor Party, the Revolutionary Socialist Alliance, the Revolutionary Workers League, the Victorian Labour League, the Congress for Friendship and Aid to the Soviet Union, the Fourth International and the Seamen's Union. Other topics covered are conscription, the Vietnam War and the Spanish Civil War. There are also essays and biographical notes and cuttings on such people as H. Alwyn Lee, Baracchi's father (Pietro Baracchi), E.T. Brown, Percy Laidler and Victoria Cramp.
