Letter from Sir Phillip Stephens to Captain James Cook, 1776-07-20

The collection comprises a letter written from the Admiralty Office to Captain Cook, Resolution Sloop, informing him that Doctor Forster had submitted specimens of New Zealand flax 'prepared by a Foreign Lady to a degree of fineness and whiteness which could be little expected' and requesting him to bring from New Zealand, if he should touch there, a quantity of the seeds. Also included is a handwritten note describing the contents of the letter plus a photocopied list of Forster letters held in the Mitchell Library.

This small collection contains personal papers relating to South Australian Bankruptcy Court Judge Sir Herbert Kingsley Paine and his daughter Helen Waldsax (nee Paine), who was an advocate for woman's rights and equality and served as President of the Watford Branch of the National Council of Women. It consists of letters, school reports, certificates, newspaper clippings such as obituaries and interviews, photographs, articles and a booklet by Helen Waldsax on the history of the Watford Branch.

Helen Zerefos OAM (born 8 November 1937) is an Australian coloratura soprano. Her career has spanned more than 50 years on stage, television, in nightclubs, concerts and recordings. Her career was launched in 1961, at a time when musical variety shows were popular on television. She won the Australian Entertainment MO Awards three times in 2006, 2008, and 2015. She was the first person of Greek heritage to be a regular artist on Australian television. She is also a tireless charity worker for the Aging Research Centre at Sydney's Prince of Wales Hospital.

Correspondence from Horatio and Henry Holyoake to their brother George and to their mother. The letters, written from Ballarat, Blackwood and Melbourne, describe work and life on the Victorian goldfields and comment on Victorian parliamentarians and politics. They refer to the high standing of G.J. Holyoake in Australia and the support that he had received in the Argus, and contain news of family matters.
