Collection of colour slides of New Guinea and various locations around Australia taken by Ronald Bannatyne Lewis in the 1950s and 1960s.
Biographical / Historical:

Ronald Bannatyne Lewis was born in Melbourne in 1898 and studied engineering at the University of Melbourne. He worked for the State Electricity Commission of Victoria from 1921-1926 and then for Hume Pipes, 1926-1941. From 1936-1930 he was branch manager for Hume Pipes in Singapore and Hong Kong. From 1942-1945 he was Chief Civil Engineer for the Allied Works Council, then became Director of Engineering for the Commonwealth Department of Works, 1945-1958. From 1958-1961 he was Deputy Director-General of the Works Department, then in January 1962 he became Director-General. During his tenure with the Department of Works he was closely involved with the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Authority. From 1959 to 1973 he arbitrated a number of disputes involving engineering firms. R.B. Lewis died in July 1985.
