- Biographical Note:
-
Peter Goadby OAM (1929 – 2007), best known as a 'big game' fisherman, author and deep sea angler, was internationally known and respected for his dedication to the conservation and ethics of fishing. Growing up in the Moreton Bay area, he began deep-sea fishing at a young age, then going on to international and national tournaments for angling. His accomplishments as an angler set records; he was the first big game angler to hook both shark and marlin weighing over 1000 pounds.
Goadby's passion for fishing and respect for the ocean led him to pursue his life's work of educating and promoting the ethical conservation of fishing. He was instrumental in the Australian tag and release program which changed the nature of big game fishing, aiding conservation efforts and providing data about fish populations.
Goadby produced the 'bible' for big game fishing internationally (Big Fish and Blue Water: gamefishing in the Pacific, 1970) and became the leading expert on the methods of game fishing (lures, pattern lures, wave positioning of lures).
