Content Summary:

The collection documents the performances of major ballet companies in Australia or touring Australia between 1940 and 1992. The companies featured are Ballet Rambert, Borovansky Ballet, Ballets Russes, Bolshoi Ballet Ensemble, Royal Ballet, Australian Ballet, National Theatre Ballet, Victorian Ballet Guild, Victorian Ballet Company and Ballet Victoria.

Performances range from the classical ballets such as Nutcracker, Swan lake, Coppelia, Giselle, Le carnaval, Aurora's wedding, Les sylphides to a small number of photographs on Spanish dancing, national dancing and modern dance.

Patrons are advised this finding aid is incomplete and material will be added to it over time.

The collection has been sorted into 4 broad groups of material: the bound albums (Albums 982 to 995); the collection of photographs (Albums 912/1- , and drawer P66-67); the collection of mounted slides (Albums 1016/1- ), and the collection of strips of negatives and transparencies (Album 1070/A-V).
