Content Summary:

Comprises four main groups of papers: letters addressed to Crome; letters addressed to Henry Chamberlain Russell, Government Astronomer, Sydney Observatory; poems and stories addressed to the editor of The Bulletin; and letters addressed to Rubery Bennett, Artists Representation.

The letters to Crome date c.1931. Writers include artists Tom Garrett, Longstaff (probably Will), Jack Lang, R T Ball, and (Arthur Albert) Bayldon.

The letters to H C Russell date 1870-1895, and are from various writers, many from Government House. Also includes three certificates made out to the observatory from the Smithsonian Instition, the Florence observatory, and the French Association for the Advancement of Science.

Authors of the mainly manuscript poems, all assumed to have been submitted to The Bulletin, include Mary Gilmore, Jim Grahame, Zora Cross, Louis Esson, Gilrooney (R J Cassidy), Myra Morris, Arnold Wall, William H Ogilvie, Arthur Albert Bayldon, Wilmot, Furnley Maurice (Frank Leslie Thompson), Roderic Quinn, E J Brady, W M Whitney, C H Souter, Alice Gore Jones, Arthur H Adams, Ethel Turner, J H M Abbott, Gerardy (Edwin Field Gerard), and Oscar Walters. There is also a nine page manuscript story by Steele Rudd 'Dad as Grandpa'; and a 18 page prose pice by J H M Abbott 'The linotype's view'. The poems and stories date c.1915-c.1930.

The letters to Rubery Bennett date 1924-1931 and writers include (Governor) Beauchamp, Tom Garrett, Will Ashton, Harry McClelland, Gordon MacLeod, Alfred Coffey, Ray Lindsay.

There are several other items not in one of these categories. They include an envelope addressed to L King, St John's College Cambridge, on which a pencil annotation Sir W J Hooker, Botanist, postmarked 1844; a condolence letter written from South Africa to a man whose son has been killed in the Boer War, 1900; a letter from (Governor) Beauchamp to Mr Plummer, 1900; handwritten list of prices which appear to be for artworks by Hayley Lever, 1912; letters to 'Adolf', 1920, 1923; a letter from Lister Lister to 'MacDonald', 1929; and two letters adressed to J R Tyrell, the Globe office, c.1931; a pencil sketch, possibly of Crome; and a cutting of a newspaper article by Crome in the Herald 1921.
