Content Summary:

This series comprises typescript copies of Andrew Garran's diaries between 1860 and 1901, together with original diaries from the 1870 to 1901, with the exception of 1877 and January-July 1896. The diaries provide biographical information on Andrew Garran and his wife, and were used by their son, Sir Robert Garran, as research for his autobiography Prosper the Commonwealth (1958).

Immediate source of acquisition:
The bulk of the Garran Papers were obtained shortly before and immediately after Sir Robert Garran's death in 1957, from Garran's son, John Garran. Further papers were located in 1968 in the possession of another son, Richard Garran.
