- The collection comprises handwritten drafts, typescripts, research notes, newspaper cuttings, first editions and foreign language editions of Tim Winton's fiction, non-fiction and children's books including, An Open Swimmer, Shallows, Scission, Minimum of Two, That Eye the Sky, In the Winter Dark, Cloudstreet, The Riders, Breath, The Deep, Dirt Music, Down to Earth with Richard Woldendorp, Land's Edge, The Turning, Rising Water, Shrine, Signs of Life, Eyrie, Leaning on the Wind, Jesse, The Bugalugs Bum Thief, Blueback and the Lockie Leonard series. Also included are screenplays, theatrical adaptions, correspondence, media articles and reviews, marketing and publicity, book layouts and designs, photographs and pictures, posters, awards, journals, commemorative stamps, DVDs and CDs as well as records relating to Tim Winton's environmental activism.

Tim Winton was born in Perth, WA. in 1960. He has been a full-time writer since 1982. Winton has published twelve books, including four children's books. His first book, An Open swimmer, was joint winner of the 1981 Vogel Award. His second novel, Shallows, won the Miles Franklin Award in 1984 and his collection of short stories, Scission, the 1985 West Australian Council Week Literary Award. Winton's other publications include Minimum of two (1987), That eye the sky (1988), In the winter dark (1988) and Cloudstreet (1991). His books for children are Jesse (1988), The Bugalugs bum thief (1991) and Lockie, human torpedo (1993) and Lockie Leonard, Scumbuster (1993). Winton's most recent novel, The Riders (1994), was a finalist for the 1995 Booker Prize.

The papers were donated to the Library by Tim Winton under the Taxation Incentives for the Arts Scheme (now the Cultural Gifts Program) in 1992, 1996 and 2015.
