1866, September 23. Born, Auckland, New Zealand.

1881. Arrived in Australia.

1894-1900. Member for East Bourke in the Legislative Assembly of Victoria.

1901-1910. Member for Bourke in the House of Representatives. Whip in first Deakin Ministry (1903-1904).

1904-1942. Treasurer, Australian Natives Association.

1908, January 28-November 13. Honorary Minister in second Deakin Ministry.

1918. First general secretary of National Federation.

1921-1942. Secretary, Australian Industries Protection League.

1924. Published "Australian Fairy Tales".

1942, August 7. Died in Melbourne.

Immediate Source of Acquisition:

The papers of J.N.H. Hume Cook, Member of Parliament and ardent protectionist, were received in 1957 from Mr. K. Hume Cook.
