Kent. Ship's journal 17 February - 23 June 1800. The Kent, an East Indiaman of 1200 tons, with 38 guns, sailed from England in April 1800, bound for Bengal. An entry showing simply "1800, 7 Octobre" is accompanied by a clipping (of later date) stating that the Kent, an English vessel, was seized by Robert Surcouf leading a mere handful of men. Surcouf, a famous corsair, was in command of the French privateer Confiance in 1811
