The collection includes papers relating to the Ern Malley hoax, newspaper cutting, artworks for some of Simpson's books, photographs, colour transparencies, negatives, photographic album, travel notebooks and brochures, handwritten drafts, typescripts, scrapbooks, research material, biographical material, records, posters, maps, printed materialand some correspondence.
Biographical Note:

Colin Simpson was born in Sydney in 1908. He worked as a journalist for the Daily Telegraph and the Sun. The latter published Simpson's revelation of the facts of the Ern Malley hoax in June 1944. Between 1947 and 1950 he worked as a writer of travel documentaries for the ACB.

From 1950 Simpson worked as a freelance travel writer. His published works include Plumes and arrows, Blue Africa, The new Australia, Wake up to New Zealand, Adam in ochre, The Viking circle and Wake up in Europe.

Colin Simpson died in 1983.

Immediate Source of Acquisition:

The Library purchased the bulk of the papers from Simpson's daughter, Julie Simpson in 1983. Further was received in 1984.

Arrangement:

The papers have not been arranged into series. It appears that Simpson's arrangement of the collection has been kept. The folio and elephant folio have been placed in folio boxes and map drawers.
