Content Summary:
The Murray Family papers contain correspondence relating to different periods of family history including Terence Aubrey Murray's letters concerning his pastoral holdings around Canberra; the letters of Lady Murray (second wife of Sir Terence Murray) to her son, Professor Gilbert Murray, at Oxford and Glasgow; Hubert Murray's letters to his brother Gilbert, covering the period of his administration in Papua; and letters exchanged with family and friends concerning personal affairs. There are also notebooks, diaries, scrapbooks, photographs and collections of press clippings principally concerning members of the family, their activities and interests. There is a volume of Professor Murray's manuscript and typescript notes on classical texts and international affairs.
Immediate Source of Acquisition:

The collection was donated to the Library by the executors of Gilbert Murray in 1958 and by Margaret Pinney, the daughter of Sir Hubert Murray, in 1968. Small additions were received in 1972 and 1987 and a substantial addition of publications (Series 7) in 1976.
