The Institute of Public Affairs was officially formed in N.S.W. on the 18 February 1943 to act as a vehicle for informed public opinion on economic problems and the political and social welfare of Australia, while maintaining an unceasing opposition to socialism.
Although this collection covers the period 1943 to 1969 the records relate mainly to the early development and involvements of the Institute, with the main body of material relating to the 1940's and the early 1950's.

The Institute of Public Affairs was officially formed in New South Wales on 18 February 1943 to act as a vehicle for informed public opinion on economic problems and the political and social welfare of Australia, while maintaining an unceasing opposition to socialism. The Institute of Public Affairs became the Sydney Institute in 1989.
