- Biographical Note:

Federal politician. Townley served with the Australian Navy during the Second World War. He was a Liberal Member of House of Representatives for Denison, Tasmania 1949-1963. Served as Minister of Air and Civil Aviation 1954-1956, Minister for Immigration 1956-1958 and Minister for Defence 1958-1963.
