- Bound volume, comprising 169 numbered leaves, measuring 28.0 x 21.5 cm. The volume includes a typescript title page, table of contents and cover title. Text supplemented by notes. Also, 11 colour photographs accompanied by a brochure.Typescript volume titled "Some memories of Elisabeth Christiana Fernhill Alt (née Earl) dictated to one of her daughters; also six chapters written by herself; biographical notes arranged by the same daughter; and notes on the Siborne Family by Lt. Col. K. Henderson, D.S.O.". The collection also includes 11 colour photographs of the Alt residence in Nagasaki, Japan, and an illustrated brochure showing the old Alt house.The first section "Memories" (leaves 1-64) deals with the period from Elisabeth's birth until just before her marriage. The "Biographical note" that follows (leaves 65-76) describes Elisabeth's meeting with her future husband, William Alt, on board the ship going to Australia, their marriage in 1864 and the move to Japan. Elisabeth Alt's "Reminiscences of Japan" (leaves 76-104) describe living arrangements, travel within Japan, tea growing and preparation, William Alt's business activities and relationships, concession and treaty port limitations, religious developments and festivals, and visits to Nagasaki Harbour, the Inland Sea, the Island of Miasima and Lake Hakone. The "Biographical note" (leaves 104-114) tells of their return to England, their living arrangements, William Alt's continued business interests and travel, their deaths and details of Elisabeth's mother Clara (née Siborne). Later chapters provide family background for both Elisabeth's mother and father and a summary of George Samuel Windsor Earl's life. The "Notes on the Siborne Family" (leaves 142-169) outline the family connections and background of the Siborne family (Elisabeth Alt's mother's family). Plus 3 coloured photographs added March 1983
