Background

Content Summary:

The records of the National Liaison Office, located in Canberra, include files on a range of themes and reflect the Office's contact with other conservation bodies, both interstate and overseas, and with the Australian Government.

There is a sequence of numbered files that cover such themes as the Environment Movement in the various States, Government and party politics, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island issues, heritage, legal issues, pollution, rainforests, transport and roads, and the wilderness. Subsequent files, also numbered, are arranged by State and cover similar themes.

Unnumbered files record the minutes, agenda and papers of Council meetings, and other administrative files.

The collection also includes a large number of newsletters issued by Australian and overseas conservation bodies.

The guide includes cross-references linking files on related themes.

Provenance:

The records of the Australian Conservation Foundation were acquired by the National Library from the Noel Butlin Archives Centre at the Australian National University in 1999.

Arrangement:

The National Library has retained the file arrangement created by the National Liaison Office.
