Background
- Content Summary:
-
The papers document Newton's role as a financial writer for the New York Post and as an adviser to bankers, sharebrokers and politicians, as well as a prolific publicist and columnist. They include correspondence, faxes, diaries, cutting books, photographs, tapes, videos, newsletters and magazines. With the exception of the photograph albums, the papers date almost entirely from Newton's years in America and there is very little on his career in Australia.
The strengths of the collection include comprehensive runs of Newton's daily newsletters including the New York Money Market Report, Maxwell Newton's Confidential Hotline and The Fed Magazine.
Correspondents include Larry Henry, Paul Weaver, Ned Chase, Scott Ivey, Sir Charles Court, Frank Devine, James Blanchard, Mark Levit, H.W. Arndt, Graham Dyer, Elizabeth Currier, Greg Copley, G. Jurkowich, Malcolm Forbes, J. V. Deaver, Milton Friedman, ENT Ltd and Collins Co.
The papers document Newton's career after he moved to New York in 1980. While there is a small amount of Australian correspondence, there is very little on his early career as a journalist in Australia.
