Background

Content Summary:

The papers consist of photographs and illustrations for a book by Gollan The tradition of Australian cooking which was published by the Australian National University in 1978. The book describes food and cooking methods, the kitchens and gadgets, and the slowly changing culinary traditions of Australians from the early Aborigines and the first days of European settlement to the present. The photographs have been used by the designer in the design and layout of the publication. Many of the images have a caption attached to the back of the photograph and an overlay with the dimensions of the photograph as it appeared in the publication.

Also included is the manuscript 'For Simmo' written by Jan Simmonds with Anne Gollan. It is the story of Kevin Simmonds (brother of Jan Simmonds) who spent seven years in New South Wales prisons before taking his own life in Grafton Gaol in 1966. The book For Simmo was published in 1980 by Cassell Australia.
